Founder Paul E. Marchant bought his first baseball trading cards in 1955, from a little corner grocery store in his home town of Paris, Illinois. His love for card collecting continued through his high school and college years, when Paul often bought his friends’ card collections. In the early 1970s, when Paul was a high school math teacher, he still continued to collect cards, but he also started selling cards, first at trade shows, and then later through mail order. He printed his first catalog in 1973, selling sport cards and also non-sport cards from his home in Charleston, Illinois. In 1977, the year Star Wars hit the big screen, Paul decided to leave his math teaching position and to sell cards full time. He traveled extensively throughout the United States purchasing all kinds of card collections, and continued to issue his catalogs. In 1979 Paul purchased the Exhibit Supply Company, a longtime manufacturer of matinee non-sport cards.

By the mid 1980s Paul owned 3 trading card stores in St. Louis, Missouri – each offering all kinds of sport and non-sport cards. Paul met his wife Dianne in St. Louis, and one may say that non-sport cards brought them together – Dianne collected Beatle cards and bought singles from Paul. Paul and Dianne later moved their mail order business to St. Louis in 1990, and moved to their present, larger location in 1999, located in the southern part of metropolitan St. Louis. Devoted exclusively to non-sport mail order, Paul and Dianne continue to issue their trading card catalogs but also offer customers the convenience of online ordering, through this website. Striving to offer excellence in service and selection, the Marchant Cards’ staff includes Dianne’s mother, Phyllis Feltz, who helps in the Marchant Card’s office and Dianne's father, Allen Feltz who works in the shipping department. Paul's mother, Geneva Marchant, who faithfully sorted cards for Paul from the very beginning of his business, passed away in January 2006. She is greated missed. Paul and Dianne look forward to the day when their children Sarah and Benjamin can also assist in the non-sport trading card business.
